Late Availability Weddings: Can You Get Married Within Six Months?

5 min read

Yes, you can get married within six months, and you do not need to compromise on the setting to do it. At The Sessions House in Spalding, Lincolnshire, the Late Availability Wedding Package is built for couples marrying soon: it brings together a daytime meal, an evening meal and an evening DJ in one booking.

The Sessions House is a Grade II listed former Victorian courthouse, built in 1843 in the neo-Gothic style in the centre of Spalding. Every booking is exclusive use, so the whole building is yours for the day, which takes a lot of the guesswork out of a short-notice wedding.

This guide covers who late availability weddings suit, what to book first, and how to keep a shorter timeline calm rather than rushed.

Who is a late availability wedding for?

A late availability wedding suits couples who would rather be married soon than plan for years. You might be a good fit if:

  • You want a shorter engagement and a clear plan.

  • Your circumstances have changed and an earlier date makes more sense.

  • You would rather make a handful of big decisions than hundreds of small ones.

  • You are flexible about the day of the week or the season.

Short notice does not mean careless. It means putting your energy into the decisions that shape everything else: the date, the venue, the guest list and the legal ceremony.

What does the Late Availability Wedding Package include?

The package is built around three things that usually take the longest to arrange separately:

  • A daytime meal for your wedding guests.

  • An evening meal for your evening guests.

  • An evening DJ, so the party is sorted without a separate search.

On top of that, you have exclusive use of The Sessions House. That includes the Courtroom, with its vaulted wooden ceilings, tiered pews and original raised judge's bench used for top-table seating, plus characterful rooms such as the Emerald Room, the Magistrates' Room and the Library. You can see each room on our Our Spaces page.

The Sessions House has in-house catering, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients where possible. For the latest details of what each package covers, see the Late Availability Wedding Package page or compare all of our wedding packages.

What should you book first when the wedding is soon?

When time is short, the order you book things in matters more than the number of things you book. Work through these in roughly this order:

  • Venue and date. Ask about a range of dates rather than one; weekdays and quieter months often give more choice.

  • Registrar. Contact your local register office early to arrange the legal side of your ceremony.

  • Guest numbers. A rough count tells you whether you need a seated meal for 30 or an evening party for 150.

  • Photographer. Good photographers book up, so enquire as soon as your date is fixed.

  • Outfits. Check ordering and alteration times before you commit to a date.

  • Everything else. Flowers, stationery, cake and styling can follow once the foundations are in place.

You do not need every answer before you enquire. A good venue conversation will help you see what is possible and what needs to happen next.

How many guests can you invite at short notice?

At The Sessions House, the Courtroom seats up to 100 guests for a ceremony or a seated meal, with ceremonies from 20 guests, and holds up to 180 guests for an evening reception. That gives you room for a close-knit day or a big evening party.

If your guest list is under 30, the Intimate Wedding Package may suit you better. If you would like a later, more relaxed start without a sit-down meal, look at the Twilight Wedding Package, and our guide to what time a twilight wedding should start explains how the timings work.

Can a short-notice wedding still feel personal?

Yes. A historic building does much of the styling for you. The neo-Gothic exterior with its big green front doors, the Justice Steps into the courtyard, and the Summer Staircase where couples leave for the confetti shot give you memorable photographs before you add a single decoration.

Because there is no mandatory supplier list, you can bring in a florist, cake maker or photographer you already love. There is no corkage on drinks you supply yourselves, which keeps the bar simple. The private walled courtyard is licensed for outdoor ceremonies, and two converted turret dressing rooms give you somewhere calm to get ready.

How do guests get to The Sessions House?

The Sessions House is on Sheep Market in the centre of Spalding, Lincolnshire. It is under 250 metres from Spalding railway station and has private parking for more than 30 cars. By car it is around 30 minutes from Peterborough, and London is around 1.5 hours away by train. If most of your guests are coming from the south, our wedding venue near Peterborough page has more on travel.

What are the trade-offs of a shorter planning time?

It helps to be honest about them:

  • Your first-choice Saturday may already be taken, so flexibility helps.

  • Some suppliers will be booked, so decide early which ones matter most to you.

  • Elaborate handmade details take time; simpler choices often look just as good.

Decide what matters most, book that first, and let the venue package take care of the rest.
